At the outskirts of the town, by the road to Černá v Pošumaví, there is an estate which belonged to the Stifters family until 1904. Since November 1910 the house has been a part of the property of Horní Planá. In 1960, the exposition of the Šumava writer Adalbert Stifter was opened here. Besides that, the museum organizes seasonal exhibitions and various cultural events. The house is listed amongst the state historic monuments. It is a starting point of the 6 km long Stifter path with six stations.
