Medvědí stezka (Bear path)

Medvědí stezka (Bear path)
Medvědí stezka is the oldest instructional trail in the Šumava mountains (established in 1967). It leads through the former settlement of Ovesná, Jelení Vrchy and Černý Kříž. At its part between Ovesná and Jelení Vrchy there are various geological and geomorphological formations of Trojmezenská highlands, the foundations of which originated in the Quaternary ice ages with subsequent weathering. The path meanders through magnificent granite rocks of bizarre shapes named poetically as Gorge of Footpads (Soutěska lapků), Logan (Viklan), Giant Cubes (Obří kostky) or Stone Beauty (Kamenná kráska). At the end of this path section we can admire the view of one of the most picturesque lakes, which was built for the purposes of timber floating - Jelení Lake. Here you can get acquainted closer with the construction of the Schwarzenberg floating channel. The second part of the path between Jelení Vrchy and Černý Kříž is devoted to gunning down of the last bear in the Šumava mountains. This event is commemorated by a memorial with the date - 14th November 1856. This path section also displays several local stone memorials. The distance of the yellow-marked instructive path is 14 km.
