Železná Ruda 1.5 km – Alžbětín train station 1.5 km (3 km) – crossroad to Schwellhäuslu 1.5 km (4.5 km) – Schwellhäusl 1.5 km (6 km) –  trail No.17 Hochbergsattel 1.5 km (7.5 km) – Bayerisch Eisenstein border train station 1.5 km (9 km) – Železná Ruda 3 km (12 km). Rather high elevation difference.

Železná Ruda – Laka lake – Nová Hůrka – Gerlova Huť – Železná Ruda (27 km)

Železná Ruda – Debrník 1.5 km – Pod Plomem 5,7 km (7,2 km) – Rudská crossroads 2.4 km (9.6 km) – former Hůrka 1 km (10.6 km) – Laka lake 2 km (12.6 km) – Nová Hůrka 4.5 km (17.1 km) – Gerlova Huť car park 3,7 km (20,8 km) – Grádl hotel 4.3 km (25 km) – Železná Ruda 2 km (27 km).

Cross-Country Skiing Hints

Železná Ruda, 750–1250 m

From the car park in the town or starting below Debrník ski lift. Go to either Laka lake or trails around Zwie¬slerwaldhaus via the border crossing. Belvedér trail can be reached on foot or using the Nad Nádražím or Belvedér ski lift.

Gerlova Huť (4 km), 900–1314 m

A large car park, a bus stop, many options for short or long circuits, newly also open trail to Zhůrská plain, na Suchých Studánkách chapel and Hůrka, old trail to Hofmanky, Můstek, Hůrka, Pošťák or Laka lake.

Bayerisch Eisenstein, 700–850 m

Hohenzollernloipe trails (beginner to intermediate levels, 4 km, 9 km and 12 km), starting at the ski stadium in the Bayerisch Häusl part. 1.5 km of the trail is illuminated. A T-bar lift with a 500-metre long slope suitable for children is located opposite.

Bretterschachten, 1130–1270 m

The highest and best maintained cross-country skiing centre in the Bavarian Forest and Šumava offers approximately 50 km of regularly maintained tracks. Cross-country skiing circuits, ranging from 4 to 15 km long, as well as skating circuits (beginner to intermediate levels, 4 km, 7.5 km, 11 km, 13 km, 16 km) are available. A long-distance trail to the Eck valley starts at the centre (advanced level, 28 km). You can climb to the peak of Javor mountain (1,456 m) from the trails. Changing rooms, buffet and a bus stop can be found onsite. Option to return from Eck by bus.

Zwieslerwaldhaus, 700–900 m 

Skiing trails, beginner to advanced levels, 1.5 km, 3 km, 5 km, 9 km and 15 km long. These are mostly suitable for cross-country skiing; however some trails are suitable for cross-country skiing and skating, as well as hiking. The cross-country trail connects the centre with the border crossing and ski trails around Železná Ruda. A pleasant pub can be found at Zwieslerwaldhaus.

Scheiben, Brennes, Lohberg, 900–1150 m

Loipe / ski trails: 2.3 km, 2 trails (beginner), 4 km, 2 trails + skating (advanced), 7.3 km, 3 trails (advanced), Scheiben – Eggersberg winter tourist trail, 8.8 km  maintained, 2 trails + some parts suitable for skating (advanced). Changing rooms and refreshment available in the Scheibensattel valley. Next to Lohberg is a 700 metre-long maintained sledging trail. Elevation difference of 120 m. Ski-bus from Lohberg to Scheiben ski centre and Velký Javor mountain available throughout the winter season. Bus also stops in Brennes (300 m).

Circuit  I: Železná Ruda – jezero Laka – Gerlova Huť – Železná Ruda

Železná Ruda – Debrník – Zámecký forest – Pod Polomem – Rudská crossroads – Hůrka – Laka lake – Hůrka – Ascherlack – Gerlova Huť – Sklářský hill – Samoty – Železná Ruda. Approximately 27 km.

Circuit II: Železná Ruda – Gerlova Huť – Hofmanky – Belveder – Železná Ruda

Železná Ruda – Samoty – Na Pošťáku – Gerlova Huť –Nový Brunst – Stará hájovna Hofmanky – Belveder – Železná Ruda.  Approximately 19 km.

Circuit III: Železná Ruda – Belveder – Hofmanky – Pancíř – Můstek

Železná Ruda – Belveder – Hofmanky – Písková trail (take a small line to the top of Pancíř descending along the skiing trails – the red trail) – Tomandlův cross– Můstek (trail used irregularly, weather-permitting only) – Nad sjezdovkou – Suché studánky – U obrázku – Nový Brunst – Gerlova Huť – Nad Pošťákem – Grádl – Železná Ruda. Approximately 29 km

Circuit IV: Železná Ruda – Zhůří – Nový Brunst – Grádl

Železná Ruda – Samoty – Pod Polomem – Hůrka – Nová Hůrka – Slučí Tah – Zhůří – Nejvyšší bod – Nový Brunst – Gerlova Huť – Grádl – walk to Železná Ruda. Approximately 28 km.

Cross-country skiing trail I: Hojsova Stráž – Špičácké saddle

Hojsova Stráž (chateau) – Pod Pancířem – Špičácké saddle Approximately 8 km

Cross-country skiing trail II: Železná Ruda – Prášily (return by bus)

Železná Ruda – Samoty – Pod Polomem – Rudská crossroad – býv.Hůrka – Formberk – Prášily. Approximately 21 km in total. Option to take bus to Prášily and start from there.

Downhill Skiing

Špičák Ski Centre

The ski centre is suitable for all levels of skiers (beginner to advanced). Children will enjoy the Penguinland with suitable lift, teaching equipment and snowtube trail.
Regular night skiing is offered on the illuminated Lubák ski slope, with artificial snow. Most of the ski centre has artificial snow.
All ski slopes are maintained on a regular basis.

Nad nádražím – Belveder Ski Centre

The ski centre offers two wide slopes (intermediate level) with a T-bar lift (622 m) and a platter lift (300 m). Starting in the 2012 season, the centre will be connected to the Belveder ski centre: 4 ski lifts (2x T-bar lift, 1x poma, 1x platter). Excellent maintenance of slopes (several times per day), regular night skiing.

Železná Ruda – Samoty  

4 ski lifts and night skiing are available at the Samoty ski centre.

Špičák – Alpa meadow

900 metre-long slope with a T-bar lift for two.

Špičák – Weissova meadow

A wide and gentle 290-metre-long slope. Suitable for beginners and children, situated 100 metres from Špičák valley, platter ski lift.
