Dobrá (Gutthausen)
One of the youngest villages of the Šumava region was founded as a settlement of wood-cutters in 1816. The village, where the majority of buildings has always been standing at one side of the road and which is therefore several kilometres long, was declared a Village Monument Reserve (VPR) in 1995.
The village represents a unique and well preserved "open-air museum" of Tirolean timbered houses of so-called Volary type, which has not been spoiled by any modern constructional or architectural projects. This type of architecture was imported to the In times of its greatest flourishing in the early 20th century, there were over 600 people living in the village (some sources indicate even almost 700 people). The last century nevertheless was not favourable for the village neither and today there are only 9 permanent residents there. The majority of the buildings serve to recreational purposes.
