Castle Velhartice

The premises of the Gothic castle from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries belongs to the unique works of the Czech castle architecture. The areal is dominated by a ruin of the Gothic palace  called Rajský House and Putna tower. Both of these objects are connected with a massivWhile besieging the castle in 1421 with his army, Jan Žižka lost his second eye.e stone bridge. After 1395, the Czech coronation jewels were hidden at the castle. In the 15th century, new fortification with towers, bastions and gates was built, together with a brewery and a still-house in the lower court. A new Renaissance château wing called Huert's was built in the early 17th century. The last owner of the estates was Joseph Windischgrätz who was living here till confiscation of his property in 1946.
