Javorník Lookout Tower

Javorník Lookout Tower
The inauguration of the lookout tower at Javorník mountain (1089 m) took place on 28th August 1938. After the separation of Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia in September 1938, the border of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia passed right behind the lookout tower and Javorník became the highest mountain of the country. Throughout the German occupation the lookout tower served as a military air observatory. After the World War II Javorník became a popular tourist destination. In the late 1970's the surrounding trees started to overgrow the lookout tower and it became functionless. After building of its extension in 2003 the lookout tower was reopened to public on 5th July of the same year. Javorník lookout tower is accessible along the yellow-marked and blue-marked tourist paths from the village of Javorník (2 km).
