Sedlo Lookout Tower

Sedlo Lookout Tower

The Celts built here an oppidum at the altitude of 902 metres three thousand years ago already. The remainders of the defence forts from the period are still perceivable here. The first recent building at Sedlo was the army observation tower built during the World War II, serving to military purposes till 1950's. The abandoned guard tower became a favourite tourist destination. The building nevertheless was not maintained and finally fell down. A new lookout tower was built here in 2009. It is an all-wood structure with a gallery in the height of 23,75 metres. The tower has 8 stories and its ground plan is heptagonal. Its total height is 27,75 metres. The gallery offers splendid view of the region. The lookout tower is open the year round and is accessible free of charge.
From Sušice by the road in direction of Albrechtice (7 km), from Pod Sedlem pension on foot along the red-marked tourist path (1,5 km).
