In the centre of Svoboda square, there is an impressive two-storied Renaissance Town Hall with 30,5 m high observation tower accessible to public. it is one of the largest town halls in Bohemia. The building acquired its today's appearance during its reconstruction of 1850-1851. It served to various purposes: according to the records of the period there were two granaries, municipal prison was  built in the northern wing in 1850, the Town Hall also housed a savings bank and the town museum. In the entrance hall on the ground floor of the building we can see one of the oldest relics of Sušice. It is a stone plaque embedded in the wall with a Latin inscription, which had originally been placed in the wall of the Klášterní (Monastery) Gate pulled down in 1856. The translation of the Latin text goes: "In 1322, John the First, the King of Bohemia and Poland and the Earl of Luxembourg, sun of Henry, the Roman Emperor, exemplary Christian, let this town wall round with rampart; May God give to the majestic King and his offspring eternal remembrance in heaven. Amen."
By the left corner of the Town Hall there is a bell called Planýř, which in the past served to the announcement of fires. The Town Hall underwent the last extensive rebuilding at the beginning of the 21st century, including modernization of the interior, roofing of the inner court, installation of an elevator and adaptation of exhibition premises in the attic. The Information Centre office was situated to the ground floor of the building, where you can get tourist information and borrow the keys of the observation tower.
