The monument was erected halfway between Borová Lada and Kubova Huť, near the peak of Světlá mountain, at the spot where a county builder, Jan Štěrbík of Vimperk (1830-1895), shot the last surviving wolf in Šumava on 2nd December 1874. The wolf was stuffed and is exhibited in the Ohrada hunting lodge near Hluboká nad Vltavou.
