Javorník (mountain 1066 m) – lookout
The stone tower on top of Javorník was built in 1938. The tower of rectangular ground plan with the height of 24 meters was built in only two months according to the design by the architect Karel Houra. It was inaugurated on 28th August 1938. During the World War II the lookout was seized by German army as an air observatory.
After the war the tower once again served to its original purpose but the surrounding spruce trees started to overgrow it and it was closed in 1997. The Endowment Fund of Karel Klostermann was established in 2001 which in cooperation with a mobile phone operator (covering the majority of costs) repaired the tower and heightened it. An octohedral deck with transmitting antennas in the upper part was installed in the height of 39,5 meters over the original roof. The lookout tower was made accessible again on 5th July 2003. Ever since it has been providing beautiful view of the Šumava and surrounding region as well as of the deep inland. Over the windows we can see maps of the landscape with the description of towns and hills.
Plenty of tourist paths lead across the lookout on Javorník - red-marked path heading to Kašperské Hory passes by the Royal Stone (Královský kámen) - a rock formation with an outlook (1058m) in vicinity of Nicov.
