One of the noteworthy historical monuments in Kašperské Hory is the stone pillory from 1630. It was originally standing in the square, south from the St. Margaret Church. Once it was not necessary as a symbol of exemplary punishment, it was transported behind the town to the foothill of Šibeniční (Gallows) hill and adapted to wayside column around 1800.
The former pillory is formed of a stone cylindrical column of approximately 147 cm in height, topped with the head bearing engraved year of 1630.
In the past the pillories were the places of public punishment and shame. The condemned criminals, who had not committed crimes and offences awarded capital punishments, were tied to the pillory, which deprived them of honour. Certain corporal punishments were also executed here, as for instance whipping, ear or tongue cutting, arm cutting, branding, etc.
