Jilmová skála (the Elm Rock), Forest Instructional Path
The natural monument Jilmová skála (the Elm Rock) is situated eastward from the village of Horní Vltavice. The natural monument is a part of the Šumava Protected Landscape Area. The territory was declared the natural monument in 1985, it extends in the area of 8,12 hectares at the altitude of 985-1037 metres and is formed of a natural mixed debris forest on a rocky ridge and talus slopes. In the area of the natural monument we can see frost cliffs, rock walls or debris flows. The undergrowth provides natural environment for precious flora and mushroom species. The forest with originally abundant occurrence of elm trees is today formed of the mixture of fir, spruce and beech trees.
The locality may be accessed from the Forest Instructional Path starting in Pravětín and following up to the connection with the blue tourist mark towards Boubín virgin forest, some 2 km away from Zátoň railway station. The path passes by Jilmová skála (the Elm Rock), which offers nice views of the interior of natural forests.
