Velký Bor, Grosshaid in German, is a defunct village near Prášil. Currently, you can only find a monument to the victims of the 1st St. war. You will be enchanted by the wonderful views of the Křemelná river valley.
The oldest mentions are from the first half of the 18th century. The village was located approximately halfway between Prášily and Srní. The inhabitants mostly worked in the forest or as peasants. Due to the altitude of almost 900 m above sea level, farmers did not do very well here.
After the First World War, about 500 inhabitants lived here, the vast majority of them Germans. They were displaced after the Second World War.
In the 1950s, the village was incorporated into the Dobrá Voda military district and razed to the ground.
Currently, it is possible to find only the foundations of some houses that are overgrown with forest. Furthermore, a monument to the victims of the 1st St. wars with twenty one names
In order for the oldest residents to be able to farm at least a little, they deforested a significant part of the village (about 70 houses were scattered over an area of approximately one square kilometer). Thanks to deforestation, wonderful views await the visitor, the view of the Křemelná valley is sought after by tourists and photographers.
How to get here:
By car or by bike along the road/cycle path from Prášil to Srní, we will park in the parking lot near the monument.
For pedestrians - a ten-kilometer blue-marked hiking trail leads from Hartmanice through Dobra Voda and the defunct village of Stodůlky to Velký Bor.
