The village placed 14 km to the south of Vimperk gradually emerged during the 18th century nearby Röhrenberk mountain (1310 m) that gave it its name. In 1755 a glass-works was established in vicinity, about 1,5 km to the west, of the most likely already existing village of Röhrenberk (as a quarters of the village of Horní Vltavice).

The glass-works was founded by the new owner of the estates, wealthy Tobiáš Adler, the leaseholder of further glass-works in Dobøíš and Rožmitál. It has been documented that Adler showed his interest in building of a new glass-works in the forests nearby Strážný and the state border in 1754 already. His application was satisfied by the owner of Vimperk estates, the Prince Joseph Adam of Schwarzenberg, who assigned to Adler the forests, the fields the meadows and the pastures in vicinity of the castle Kunžvart (Strážný) and granted him the permission to build here a sawmill and a glass furnace for the production of all types of glass in 1755. The glass-works was flourishing under the management of the owner until 1759 when it was taken over by his son František Antonín Adler, after which its decline started. The glass-works employed 8 workers, 2 apprentices and 10 ancillaries, and it was manufacturing chalk glass and beads (so-called "páteøíky"). Two thirds of the production were sold in Bohemia and the rest was exported to Turkey. The glass-works decline was topped off with the loss of markets during the war conflicts in the 1790's. After the sale of the glass-works to Michal Müller from Kašperské Hory in 1798, the Prince did not confirm new contract of sale and redeemed the glass-works himself. Shortly after that the glass production was discontinued and the glass-works was shut down. There are no records about the glass-works itself and the sale of its products, if any, under later management of the estates owner.¨Tobiáš Adler died at the age of 71 on 26th August 1810 at the glass-works in Kvilda, which confirms the existence of another Adler's glass-works in this locality. It is remarkable that the local literary sources of 1840 and 1854 still designate the place as glass-works instead of a village, maybe of inertia.
