Čeňek's Saw-Mill

The confluence of the Vydra and the Křemelná rivers is one of the most picturesque nooks of central Šumava. Right here, on the spot where the Otava river springs, Čeněk Bubeníček (1807-1888) built a saw-mill in 1856 that was transformed into the water power plant Čeňkova Pila in 1912. The second water power plant named Vydra was built between 1937 and 1939. Both power stations are still fully functional. At the confluence of the rivers Bedřich Smetana got inspired to compose his symphonic poem Vltava (The Moldau).
