Vchynicko-tetovský canal

This technical cultural monument was built in 1799-1801 according to the design of Ing. Josef Rosenauer. The construction was financed by then proprietor of the estates, the Prince Joseph Schwarzenberg. The floating canal begins on the Vydra river at the outskirts of Rechle by the gate bridge and opens to the Křemelná river. The canal is approximately 16 km long and has a 190 difference in elevation. Along the canal there are several authentic arched stone bridges and walled-up stream-beds. Firewood used to be floated from Čeňkova Pila further along the Otava and the Vltava rivers down to Prague. The importance of the canal was gradually decreasing and after the timber harvesting was limited a part of the canal was used as a feeder for the water power plant Vydra at Čeňkova Pila.
