Boubín
On the top of Boubín mountain (1362 m) there is a lookout tower. Right beneath the peak a curious tourist may discover the remainders of the Schwarzenbergs' plenteous activities. In 1902, the Prince John Adolf of Schwarzenberg ordered to build a hunting lodge in here. Hunting was his passion. A chapel was standing behind the lodge and the premises included stables and antler preparing room. Within the land reform of 1930, Boubín forests were taken over by the state. In the next year, the Schwarzenbergs let dismount the lodge and place it into the game preserve of Hluboká. The state enterprise Lesy ČR (Forests of the CR) recently reconstructed the adjoined farm building.
Beneath Boubín mountain, we can admire Boubín Lake. In fact it is an artificial water reservoir that was used for timber floating along the Kaplický stream.
Boubín Virgin Forest spreads out on the slope of Boubín mountain. Its origins date back to 1858, when due to the Schwarzenbergs' ranger Joseph John first fenced area was established to preserve the intact natural virgin forest stands. A circular instructive trail was built around the virgin forest, with starting point and final destination being at the Boubín Lake.
