Lenora covered bridge "rechle"

A significant engineering and technical monument is a wooden covered footbridge with shingle roof built in 1870 called "rechle". The bridge connects the Vltava river banks behind Lenora, under the main road to Volary. The covered trash rack served for retaining, counting and gradual releasing of drifted timber from the surrounding Boubín forests. After raising of massive beams inserted vertically to the bridge to retain floated logs, the collected timber was suddenly released and sailed with the Vltava waters down to the paper mill in Větřní. The operation of the Lenora rack continued until the construction of Lipno dam.
The whole structure is 25 meters long and is fitted with timber casing to the roof. The total height of the passage-way from the floor to the ceiling is 3 meters. The floor is 1,8 meters wide and is formed of several robust beams. We can notice gouged holes in the floor that served for insertion of vertical beams designed to retain floated timber. The structure is covered with wagon-headed roof. Originally it was lockable from both sides with door. The bridge deck is situated about 3 meters above the river level on three granite pillars.
