Rankl Sepp was a legendary local strong man with the true name Josef Klostermann, one of the characters of the novel "In Paradise of the Šumava Mountains" by Karel Klostermann. Rankl Sepp lworked as a carter and won fame thanks to his unusual strength that he nevertheless never misused. His nickname was after the great clearing called Ranklov situated amidst vast forests between Horská Kvilda and Stachy. That is where his native house used to stand, where he was born on 16th January 1819, where he lived and worked. Mr. Pavel, a wood carver of Horská Kvilda, created the life-sized sculpture of Rankl Sepp according to a photograph and one can see it in Horská Kvilda, in the garden of Mr. Ladislav Pavel. It is 2,13 m high, it weighs 200 kg and was made of four oak logs.
