Křížkov pla (Kreutzwinkel) place of pilgrimage

Křížkov pilgrimage place

The Křížkov – Kreutzwinkel pilgrimage place was built by the municipality of Hamry in cooperation with the association of the German natives Künische Gemeinde Hammern (Royal Community of Hamry) and with the Bavarian village of Lam in 2007. The project was co-financed from EU subsidies within the scope of the Community Initiative INTERREG III.A The common project consisted of removal of the debris from the original foundations of the chapel demolished in 1958, uncovering of the well-preserved peripheral walls into the height of about 2 m and a part of the stone floor. Besides that, granite jambs of the entrance door, small metal objects and a stone plate with the embossed coat of arms of the aristocratic family Kolowrat-Krakovský and the year 1731 were found and restored. A wooden six meters high cross was erected here together with an information panel.
Several photographs and souvenirs of the chapel in Zadní Hamry were preserved in vicinity of the original road to Železná Ruda, amidst a group of houses called Křížkov (Kreutzwinkel). The mass chapel was founded and built in 1730-1731 by the franklin Jan Torner as a simple and modest building without outside decorations on the cruciform ground plan. The centre of the chapel was formed of a square with slant angles. A vestibule with gallery adjoined to the western side of the central square. A stone plate with the coat of arms and the year 1731 found during debris removal was originally hanging above the entrance. Today it is placed in the place of the main altar. The plate is a hewn granite block, 100 x 60 x 15 cm large, with the embossed simplified version of the coat of arms of the aristocratic family Kolowrat-Krakovský, the Lords of Újezd. Placing of the plate into the chapel expressed respect to the lords of the manor.
The chapel originally had three Rococo altars with rich carvings with acanthus leafs. A bulbous turret stood up on the shingle roof. On the altar there was a silver cross with the relic of the Holy Cross (the name of the settlement was derived from the patrocination), donated to the chapel by Kateřina Knittlová in 1736. The pilgrimage place offers picturesque view of the valley of Hamry.
