The peak of the mountain with the lookout tower is also called Polední hora (Polední Mountain) and is situated 7 km to the south from Prášily. With its altitude of 1315m it is a natural dominant of the whole border region. The original building served as an air defence base of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. After the fall of the Iron Curtain military equipment lost its importance. In the summer of 1998 rebuilding of a 37-meter-high tower was finished, which has become an observation tower.
In favourable weather conditions the visitors may enjoy magnificent views of virtually the whole Šumava and Bavarian Forest. "The Green Roof of Europe" lies open here. And that is not all, at good visibility you can admire Pošumaví and Czech Basin regions up to tens of kilometres faraway and more than 180 km distant Alpine peaks. The tower offers indoor seating and snacks.
