Parish and pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary by Strašín
The parish and pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (7km to the north-east of Kašperské Hory) is an extraordinary dominant of the Šumvava foothills. The originally Romanesque-Baroque church was radically reconstructed and adapted into the today's Baroque image in 1736-1739. The priest and poet P. František Daniel Mertha (1915-1995) worked at Strašín vicarage for more than three decades.
In the past (before the World War II), the inhabitants of Strašín and neigbourhoods often went to foreign countries to find new work and often joined circus companies.
