The peat bog is located in about 1 km distance from the village of Borová Lada and is 137 hectares large. It belongs into the 1st zone of Šumava National Park (Národního parku Šumava). The peat bod is accessible from the car park along an asphalt road and a wooden foot-path, which is ended by a platform on the side of the largest bog lake in the Czech Republic. Chalupská fen represents a transitory type of peat bog between the valley moors along the Vltava and the Křemelná rivers and the raised bogs of the Šumava plateau planes.
